Yorkie Terrier Grooming, Styles, Hair Cut and More
An oblivious, troublesome, and adventurous toy dog is the best description for a Yorkshire terrier. The Yorkshire terrier has the trademark of full flowing hair of a texture that is comparable to hair of humans. Averagely weighing from two to three kilograms, it doesn’t stand any taller than 20.5 centimeters. A Yorkie will be a best partner in an apartment, they love indoors and can play even at your yards, though they are sensitive to cold and they enjoy places with warm climates.
They are the type of dogs who need daily walks, for about 30 minutes, they need them to strengthen their fragile bones. The typical shade of hair for the Yorkshire terrier is gold and blue. The blue resembles steel blue, which can become grey colored as they age. In some Yorkies, they have a mixture of tan and black.
Enough about the general information of Yorkie, let us focus on their grooming, so that we could maintain a clean and beautiful Yorkie, whether just a home buddy or a show puppy.
First, about the teeth of a Yorkie, among its body parts it is the most delicate. One primary health problem a Yorkie encounters is early tooth decay, and because of this, daily brushing is recommended. Aside from early tooth decay, daily brushing is also recommended because of the fact that there is always an excessive tartar build up on this kind of dog. For more information on your Yorkie’s dental hygiene, you should consult your veterinarian to use the proper materials.
Now, about their nails, it should be cut after bath, to make their nails softer and you should also cut only the tips to prevent nail bleeding. With regards to their eyes, you should also remove their mucus around it every time. The mucus there may cause rotting in their hair, use wet cotton balls to remove it and dry them off well. Putting on some Vaseline under their eyes is also an option. Your Yorkie’s ear should be checked by the veterinarian regularly, to remove excessive wax and mites that maybe found on his or her ear, and in everyday grooming clean their ears with cotton buds for dogs to maintain its cleanliness and free from infection.
When bathing them, use warm water, and make sure it will never get into their eyes. Rinse them properly, when improperly rinsed shampoo that will remain in their hair or in their skin will harm them. Make sure to dry them with a towel with only light pressure on it, remember it is a small dog, and might be hurt easily and to complete the drying process, use a blow dryer but in warm temperature. Bathe your dog only once a week or when it is just dirty, it will be unhealthy for the Yorkie to be bathed daily.
The most seen and important part is their coat. Comb them with a steel comb to eliminate tangles, after combing them brush their hair into the opposite direction and back to its real direction, they love to feel this regimen. You should also trim their hair at the bottom regularly for hygienic purposes. Their hair should only be trimmed once in every 3 to 4 months, especially pet Yorkies who have shorter hair.
